Shield
The shield is blue for Infantry. The castle from the Puerto-Rican occupation medal denotes service in Puerto Rico. The red hand with gold bend charged with the red bendlet commemorates service during World War I. The red hand was the insignia of the 157th French Division of which the 372d Infantry was a part during the Meuse Argonne offensive. The bend charged with the bendlet indicates the service in the defensive sectors in Alsace and Lorraine. The arms of Alsace have a bend Or (gold) thereon, and the arms of Lorraine a bend of Gules (red).
Crest
The crest is that of the Massachusetts Army National Guard.
The coat of arms was originally approved for the 372d Infantry, 3d Battalion on 10 July 1929. It was rescinded on 6 May 1942. It was reinstated and redesignated for the 272d Field Artillery Battalion on 23 August 1951. It was redesignated for the 972d Antiaircraft Artillery Battalion on 13 August 1956. The insignia was redesignated for the 241st Engineer Battalion on 13 September 1965. It was rescinded on 28 February 1975.
